Timbuktu was Mauritania’s official submission to the Best Foreign Language Film category of the 87th Academy Awards in 2015. It was the first time a Mauritanian film was submitted to the Oscars. It was also nominated in that category making it the first Mauritanian film to be nominated at the Oscars.
Timbuktu was shot on the Arri Alexa Plus, Cooke S4 and Fujinon Premier Cabrio Lenses
